Understanding fragrance notes in scented candles
Scented candles have become a beloved addition to our homes, enhancing the ambience and offering therapeutic benefits. To fully appreciate these aromatic treasures, it's essential to understand the concept of fragrance notes and the different potentials they hold, helping you choose the perfect candle.
What are fragrance Notes?
Fragrance Notes are the layers of scent that unfold over time as the candle burns, we categorise these into three types.
Top Notes: These notes are the initial impression of the candle; they're light and evaporate quickly. They’re usually fresh and uplifting, setting the stage for the fragrance experience.
Middle Notes: These form the core of the candle’s scent profile. Middle notes emerge after the top notes dissipate these are often floral or spicy, providing the main character of the fragrance.
Base Notes: The fragrance's foundation, base notes are rich and long-lasting. They appear after the middle notes fade, adding depth and complexity to the scent.
What are the therapeutic benefits of fragrances and essential oils?
At Aery, we use a combination of both fragrance oils and essential oils, as this allows us to get super creative with our fragrances. Mixing them means we get the therapeutic benefits of essential oils but with the stronger and longer-lasting scent throw of fragrance oils. Understanding the aromatherapeutic effects of different fragrances can help you choose your candles to suit your mood and enhance your mindset.
Fruity (Top) Notes: Lemon, grapefruit, orange and lime are all energising and uplifting scents, making them perfect for boosting your mood and refreshing your space. Ideal for the summer season, we would reach for Citrus Tonic or Positive Energy for rejuvenation.
Floral (Middle) Notes: Lavender, rose and jasmine are all calming and soothing scents ideal for bringing relaxation, stress relief and aiding a good night’s sleep. Reaching for candles with these notes, will leave you feeling relaxed, cheery and restored, try Dream Catcher or Aztec Tuberose.
Spicy (Middle) Notes: Cinnamon, nutmeg and thyme will add warmth and comfort, creating a cosy and warming atmosphere for your living space. Perfect for the winter months we recommend Persian Thyme or Nordic Cedar.
Woody (Base) Notes: Cedarwood, sandalwood and patchouli provide grounding and stability, perfect for enhancing concentration and meditation. These fragrances are the ultimate mix of positive focus and feelings of balance try scents such as Indian Sandalwood or Black Oak.
